The Wiri Licensing Trust and funding partners The Trusts Community Foundation (TTCF) and Trillian Trust have supported the orchestra since 2002. In 2014 they gave us funds to purchase 80 instruments which enabled us to teach more young people music. Today they help us to run our four bands/orchestras, run music camps, put on concerts including retirement village tours and provide affordable music tuition to 120 students in Manurewa.
We thank the trustees of the Wiri Licensing Trust and funding partners for continuing to support our work.
From 2002 to 2015 we had a contract for services with the Manukau City Council, Auckland Council and then Mangere & Otahuhu Local Board. This was our main source of funds for operational expenses. Fortunately Wiri Trust and funding partners were able to fill this gap when the funding contract was not renewed. We acknowledge the historical significance of this funding. We have since received smaller contributions through funding schemes administered by the Papakura & Manurewa Local Boards.
This is a grant scheme operated by the Department of Internal Affairs and since 2008 we have been fortunate to receive funds towards wage expenses for the orchestra's affordable music tuition programmes in Manurewa.
In the very early days Creative Communities Manukau City NZ helped get us started by providing funding required to put on a concert. In later years we received a substantial grant from Sky City Community Trust for instruments and then an even larger grant from ASB Community Trusts. We should also acknowledge Kedgley Intermediate School which provided us with premises for rehearsal and storage space for instruments from 2000 to June 2014 when we moved to Hillpark, Manurewa.
